Annie,

My experience is from the automation side of things. We use .100" on
slots for breakaway.

When we had to deal with the sensor issue for our automatic insertion
equipment, we dealt with the sensor. For instance we set the angle of
the sensor just slightly off of 90degrees to minimize the effect of the
opening. We also dealt with overhead lighting to change the sensitivity
of the sensors.

These are just 2 possible items to look at, and of course if your
situation cannot be flexible in the application your trying to deal
with, then I guess it is back to the drawing board!!
