Vaporized? Not likely, especially 7 microns. Oxidized? Much more probably.
Silver oxides are highly conductive. It might not matter whether you have
"tarnishing" from a functional view.
Your last question implies that it IS a problem. I am not sure that the
presence of an oxide on the surface of a metal is a problem. If it is, we
are all in trouble.
