Chris

First you should be aware that the soon to be released revision of the
IPC-CC-830 will EXCLUDE adhesion testing.

Why? Because there seems to be no correlation between adhesion of the
Conformal coating with circuit reliability. Remember that the coating is
tested independently onto bare coupons (as are all other surface coatings:
resists, fluxes pastes etc) and adhesion in this condition has not seemed
to be an issue.

However, when you put a resist in between and adhesion sometimes seems
poor? - The coating is not intelligent - so how does it know any
difference??

Also, are you using a silicone coating? If so, how is any tape (used in such
adhesion tests in the past) going to stick to the coating to make the test
meaningful?

Have you experienced a reliability problem? Are you testing the coating for
failure? Please advise....

Regards, Graham Naisbitt
