Charles,
There's a company named Saunders Technology that sells thermocouples
called "Temprobes". They are thermocouples that have a stainless steel type of
"body" if you will, and sort of clip attachment system that you can clip to a
no-populated edge of your PCB, and then position the tip where you need to
measure. There have been tests done that have shown that these thermocouples
are just as accurate as soldering or gluing a standard wire thermocouple to a
solder joint. I've used them before and they are really easy to use!
I will say they are kind of expensive if you just look at strictly price
in comparison with standard wire thermocouples, but if you look at the time
and money that you save in plotting reflow profiles over a year, that will
justify the extra cost. They have a web page, it's at: www.saunderstech.com .
