Starr,
The base requirement, stated in MIL-STD-2000A (now cancelled), was 10.06
micrograms of sodium chloride equivalence per square inch. This value has
propogated through to J-STD-001B (despite all my efforts to kill it). This
value must be modified, using "equivalence factors" that translate the 10.06
value to the machine you are using. An example is the Omegameter 600R. It's
pass fail level is 14.00 micrograms of sodium chloride equivalence per square
inch. This would be 0.014 milligrams of sodium chloride equivalence per
square inch.

For a good understanding of ROSE testing and the limitations thereof, I would
recommend that you get a copy of EMPF report RR000013, "An In-Depth Look at
Ionics Cleanliness Testing". The EMPF library can be reached at 317-655-3673,
or at www.empf.org.
