Jan,

Although I'm not familiar with wave soldering and whether this offer's you
any help or not but per the Nasa Hand Book requirements for "hand soldering"
are as follows.

NHB 5300.4 (3A-2), par. 3A501-4
"Swage type terminals that are mounted in a PTH shall be secured to the PWB
by an elliptical funnel swage to permit complete filling of the PTH with
solder. Terminals shall be swaged such that they can be rotated under
finger force."

Our requirements for hand soldering, only the swaged end get's soldered.
Because of the elliptical swage it allows a slightly reflowed solder fillet
around the base. The only time a solder iron is used on the primary side
is to attach wiring or a component to the terminal. I would think that
with this type of swage regardless of handsoldering or wave the outcome
should be the same.

Just a thought.

Sherry

The elliptical swage should allow a slightly reflowed solder fillet around
the base of the terminal. During handsoldering a soldering iron to the
primary side of the board is only done when attaching wires or components,
never to the base.
