If possible, access [www.loctite.com/mrktchnls/electronics/index] for a
review of some conformal coatings.
Read Electronics Packaging and Production, June 97 as well as Circuits
Assembly, May 97 (as suggested by Richard Blanchet of Marconi.)
Also, please refer to the following responses within the original text...

Subject: [TN] CONFORMAL COATINGS ON PCBS

I have just been asked a question about conformal coatings on printed
circuit boards and I can remember this question arising on this forum some
time in the past. I would again like to bring this subject up to try and
find out some of the following answers. The board I wish to apply this
coating to is to be used in a high humidity environment

(I) What type of conformal coatings are available ?.
A: Parylene, Acrylic, Urethane, Silicone, Solvent-based vs. Zero
solvents, etc.

(ii) How easy is it to apply?.
A: Manually operated spray or dip systems are very easy to use.
Programmable spray systems and the like require knowledge of fluid handling
and software programming.

(iii) What will it cost?.
A: Material cost ranges from $5 for an aerosol can to $1,000 for a pail.
Dispensing systems can range from $5k to 50+!

(iv) Is it possible to remove after application for rework etc?.
A: Silicone is easy to repair, acrylics and urethanes are more difficult,
parylene is the most difficult.

 Thank you
