Hi Paul,
I was the chairman of the committee that produced IPC-SM-785.
The high acceleration isothermal mechanical cycling referred to on page 7 can
be performed at either room or elevated temperatures. The test referred to is
the one developed for the IEEE Compliant Lead Task Force in the 1983
timeframe. Essentially all the testing was performed on a test apparatus
conceptualised by the Task Force leaning on an initial DEC-design, the
detailed design was done by AMP, which also build the first 20 test machines
for the Task Force. This test apparatus is available from Anatech, 6
Whittemore Terrace, Wakefield, MA 01880-2252, 617-245-7825,

Detectors, that allow you to properly monitor for failures. I cna mention the
supplier, since to my knowledge nobody else builds anything comparable. IBM
also developed a high acceleration isothermal mechanical cycling
technique—this one uses PWB twisting instead of PWB bending—which they
commercially sell as well. However, I can for the moment not lay my fingers on
the appropriate contact information—I just relocated, and my files are still a
mess. I do not get any commisions from either company, by the way.
