If you find the cost of Orcad or Pads is too much, try Eagle by CADSOFT. I have looked at their demo package before they redid
the interface. It was different at that time as far as the interface is concerned. Now it has a "windows" like GUI and you can
get everything from schematic entry to PCB layout for less than about $2000. They claim the be the most popular software in
Europe. It's a German company with a sales office in Florida.
