Tom,
If you have any offline e-mail that you could share, I would appreciate
it.
I could pass responses along to the cost analysis team for review and
hopefully give some feedback. However, I am on the fighting end of
things.
Perhaps, the greatest nightmare to a production house is a process
collapse. Following that is a surge and unexpected bottleneck.
Generating 98+% yields, in a multilayer/via shop, always on time, and
through possibly 40 separate steps means one loses 5 boards out of
10,000 at each step. Of course, one might run an overrage to hopefully
soak up what could even turn out to be a bad lot of material or
chemistry or, on occasion, a tough design from the get go.
Even said, quality and timing are two big drivers for sales and profits.
Here are some thoughts regarding additional costs: One needs to factor
in the residual cost of a "Tiger Team" to avoid occurances which is why
I am employed -- thankfully. Next, hourly wages in regular/overtime
pay, additional shipping charges, loss of premium for work on the floor
and inability to book new, immediate work, and from the cost of
additional materials to waste treatment.
I have worked for a couple of shops where overtime and additional
expenses are sacrificed for job delivery. The reason is simple:
economics. It pays to be on time and build good rapport because there
are no "nevers" -- not even in the PWB industry.

both of us more.]
