Routing the board is probably less stressful on the board and its
components than trying to manually break the waste material away from
the finished assembly, especially if the board is held in place with
internal mounting holes.
If the tab is relatively small, diagional cuttters might work as a
short-term fix. The key thing to avoid: DO NOT FLEX THE FINISHED
ASSEMBLY. Not only will the solder joints fracture when the board is
flexed but also components mounted near the tabs and perpendicular to
the board edge can fracture the component's ceramic body itself.
