1. Drum Side Treated Foil and Reverse Treat Foil are basically the same
process. Polyclad registered DSTF as a trademark. Nelco uses RTF.
Basically, it is standard ED copper that "flipped" upside down when the
laminators make the core material. In the standard process, the drum side of
the copper is facing away or out from the epoxy and the irregular plating side
is treated and faces the epoxy. DSTF or RTF reverses that and treats the drum
side and laminates that to the epoxy so that the rougher plated side faces
out. This has benefits in photoresist adhesion, adhesion at lamination, etc.

2. Double treat copper is standard copper that has a treatment on both sides
of the copper. The surface facing away from the copper is treated an oxide
treatment (and other proprietary additives) that eliminates the oxide process.
The pcb manufacturer images, etches, and laminates the material without going
through an oxide treatment. This is becoming more popular (again) with the
thinner cores that benefit from less processing.

| There appear to be some noticeable oxide cosmetic
| differences (weight
| gains and uniformity) with drum side or reverse treated
| foils.
|
| Are others experiencing these changes?
|
| What conditions work best if these are not seen?
|
| Thank you for your input,
