Hi Ed:
The area of any shape is in square units ft2. in2, m2, etc
for a  cubic feet represent volume and for a cylinder it is:

Vcyl = pi * r * r * h

where pi is 3.14 (about), r=radius, h=height. Make sure that both r and
h are in the same units.
