We have this problem of RFI shields (cans) over component groups. Most
of our shields are fab from a sheet metal house. The PCB would have
routed plated through slots (to ground) in which we solder the shield
to. This is hard for servicing and not always easy to solder, since
the shield is a big heat sink.

We are now experimenting with surface mount shield clips that are pick
& place ready, and solder through reflow. Another advantage is the
shield is removable for servicing. I have no qty track record yet.

Possible problems: There is a gab between the board and shield, the
supplier says to put a u shape cutout where the clip is to lower. How
may are needed for good shield grounding (our current shields have a
ground point approx every 1"). These clips cost around $.05 each low
     qtys.

One supplier of the clips is autosplice.
