Trying to sort out all of the data standards and what I really need to
supply to a board shop is confusing. Some shops like IPC -356 data
standards. Some do not care but would like an RS-274-X format so they get
the embedded data. Some would like a embedded drill file in Excellon
format, some would like a Mentor neutral file so that test fixture can be
made from it because they feel that it is better that the IPC standard.
Some vendors have told me that they redo all the data once it comes into
the board house. I would like to provide as much of the data as I can in
the format that is required but what is really useful. I am aware that
IPC is trying to put together the Ecce formats that were described in one
of the trade journal this month but I really can't wait. Also I would like
to know how assembly house handle the manufacturing data that is required
from customers. Should that be in a special format also. Is there a
common format that give everything.

Best Regards

C. A. Peterson
