If you'll pardon my ascii art, mouse bites are small areas of line width reduction.
On innerlayers they are caused by a variety of factors. If you use dry film to image
cores and the resist does not conform perfectly to a scratch or other imperfection in the
surface then the etchant will start to etch under the resist into the edge of the line a bit.
Another cause is if the etch pH is a bit too high (alkaline etch) the resist may begin to lift
along the edges and allow some etchant seepage under the edge.
