Conductivity of rinse water, although related to the ionic contamination
levels of the actual boards, does not reflect the actual board
contamination. Some panels will rinse more easily than others because of
the circuit geometry, thereby allowing insufficiently cleaned panels to
proceed, even though the DI rinse indicates low conductivity suggesting
clean boards. However, ionic contamination testing will reveal problems.
Circuit board customers would not like this contamination in any
circumstance, and particularly in high stress applications whereby shorting
will result in failures.
