An Ionograph is a very recommendable piece of equipment, if that is the tool
you are referring to.

Contaminants which do not wash off well can cause reliability shorts if they
are conductive.  Ionograph testing is a good way to find them.

Also, poor drying of the boards can cause SnPb oxides to cause shorts across a
board.  I have seen well washed, but poorly dried boards develop dendritic
growth shorts from the SnPb of the solder joints.

SMT/Wave Process Expert,

If the conductivity of the DI water of wash machine is maintained along with
good maintenance of the wash machine, do we still feel that it is always or
must to have ionic contamination measurement equipment like one of that
Alphametal makes?

I am really interested in pros and cons of having such system from need
point of view rather than sales pitch (to show to prospective customers).
