In our 5-zoners, we can run our various boards at approx. 0.5 m/min or so
easily. Seems to me that the popular sizes are 5 and 7 zones. We just
bought two new 5 zone (1.75 m heated length) forced convection models,
replacing panel IR with 10 zones, and the profiles we achieved the day we
turned on the furnaces had lower delta t's than we had ever gotten with the
old equipment.
For my money, 5 is enough - but the is the "more is better" argument is
pervasive.
I also suggest that you avoid paying for nitrogen capability if you don't
require controlled atmosphere, and to make sure you get enough cooling
capability to avoid burning your fingers on those exiting boards...

p.s. anyone want to buy a couple of nice used IR reflow furnaces? How about
a nice in-line two stage aqueous cleaner? email for details.
