Hi Ken,

I've never used it, Ken. But basically
it involves predicting the electrical
behavior of a board (generating noise,
crosstalk, being able to pass FCC
emissions, ...) prior to building it.

Depending upon what "model" is used,
one may get alot of different predictions.
Different softwares out there build
predictions of a board by assuming
different things about the board.

For instance, the softwares I looked at
to use on a PC made the assumption that
the ground planes in a PC board were
*perfect* ground planes to reduce the
number crunching. Obviously, some amount
of reality is lost but it's extremely
difficult to model a board electromagnetically
without alot of number crunching.

Some of these things need only a desktop PC
or need a full scale university mainframe.

Several vendors may be on-line here.
Perhaps they'll give you their side.
