Larry:
The criteria we used to in wave solder machine selection were
repeatability, control, ease of maintenance, and the ability to
eliminate fixturing. Obviously there is more to be evaluated than
just the above criteria, however, these were very important in our
selection criteria.
Other factors to consider:
1. Volume
2. Space requrements
3. PWB technology (PTH or Mixed)
4. Flux Technology (RMA, Water Soluble, No-clean/Low-residue),
Preheat requirements (IR, Calrod, or Convection will make a
difference depending on PWB design and flux type now and in the
future),
5. Nitrogen requirements
6. Masking requirements
7. Conveyor Finger style requirements
8. Hot Air Knife requirement
9. Emissions of the machine
10. Exhaust requirements
11. How will this machine fit into your organizations future plans.
12. Cost. Be careful trying to save dollars and buy something that
will not fit your requirements.
13. On/Off loading requirements
14. Machine Control (Manual/PID/Computer)
15. Training
16. Supplier Support
I can't think of anymore right now, but I am sure there are probably
other consideration. Hope this helps. The top four characteristics I
mentioned and the other 16 were used to evaluate and purchase a new
Dover Soltec Delta Wavesolder machine during this past year. The
machine is online and doing an excellent job.
