Through hole is still cheaper (albeit very slightly) on most items, however ceramic disc caps are
now available in standard values in surface mount that we have not been able to get the same
value in through hole from anyone.

Also we need a DIP inserter that will insert 28 and 40 pin 0.300" dips and nobody makes DIP
insertion equipment anymore.

Also consider the fact that with finished FR-4 boards costing about 2 to 5 cents a square inch,
for every inch you can save, you are saving 2 to 5 cents.

Also for ESD/EMI surface mount is better due to shorter trace runs and no leads (nice
inductors/antennas for ESD/EMI).
