Gary (and Scott),

This only gives you a netlist that has been derived from the gerber
data, not really what you want.

If you extract the IPC-D-356 Netlist from the CAM tool, then how do you
know what you designed on your Host CAD system, is what you got when you
went through the gerber extraction process?

I think it would be better to extract a IPC-D-356 Netlist from your host
CAD system then read it into the CAM tool, have the CAM tool derive a
netlist, then compare the two netlist. This insures that the netlist on
your HOST CAD system matches what you have on the CAM system (and
eventually at the board shop).

Scott,

We use Cadence, Mentor, PADS, Accel, Visula, UniCAD and VeriBest. There
are IPC-D-356 Netlist program available for almost all of these tools.
In some cases we bought them, in others we wrote them. I am sure that
you have been told that RSI can supply you with IPC-D-356 translators to
all of the above tools.

Good Luck,

Steve Smith

Scott,

I output IPC-D-356 from CAM350, using the ascii data file from PADS as
input.
This way it maintains the net names in the test report. I just started
providing the IPC-D-356 file as a standard output this summer but it has
not
been used in a production run yet. Hope this helps answer your
questions.
