Hi Steve,

From prior experience:

1. If your people are going to do any splicing
of fiber-optic cable, make sure they do it
with gloves over a barrel specifically for
the waste. The sheared pieces of fiberglass
   are worse than splinters.

2. Make sure that handling the cable ensures
the ends are protected from handling and
   dirt.

Little rubber caps should come with
the cables (if pre-assembled) to cover the
ends. Also, the caps may indicate what
kind of "cut" was done to the end of the
cable - straight or angled. Some fiber
is cut straight across the cable for a
flat connection into what it's being
plugged into. Others have an "angled"
cut. The two are obviously incompatible.

A cleaning solvent and q-tips are for cleaning
the dirt. I believe some solvents will leave
a residue, so check on this. It's been a while
for me. Good practice is to clean the fiber EVERY
   time a connection is made.

Regards, Doug
