I'm trying to assemble semi-rigid coax cables made with MIL-C-17 RG402 .141"
dia. cable and MIL M39012/79 P/N 3002 connectors. The cables are being tested
over a frequency range of 8 to 18 gigahertz, and the spec requirement is 1:1.2
VSWR. So far, we are getting approximately a 50% yield. While bad cables are
out of spec at room temperature, we did notice that if we have a marginal
cable, it goes out of spec (many times to an RF open) when heat is applied (hot
air gun no more than 150 degrees F). Good cables hardly change at all.

Are we pushing the limit with our tight VSWR requirements? Should this be
achievable? If so, does anything come to mind as to what we might be doing
wrong?

Thanks in advance for your quick responses,

Jim Marsico
