If you are interested in various technologies for making holes conductive, including direct metallization, you are invited to attend either of two free IPC-US EPA Design for the Environment (DfE) Making Holes Conductive (MHC) Seminars: On Monday, Oct. 6 at the Hyatt Crystal City in Arlington, VA; and on Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Best Western Airport Inn in Phoenix, AZ. Both seminars run from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. There is no registration fee for either seminar.

These DfE MHC Seminars will present the results of two years research on seven MHC technologies: electroless, carbon, graphite, palladium, non-formaldehyde electroless, conductive polymer, and conductive ink. These technologies were tested in actual PWB manufacturing facilities and evaluated for health and environmental risks, performance, reliability, costs, and ease of implementation. These seminars will present the results of this testing and evaluation.

In addition, ten publications from the DfE project will be provided to all attendees. These seminars are sponsored by IPC and the US EPA, and are free to everyone. However, we do ask anyone who plans to attend to register so that we may insure adequate materials and space. If you do plan to attend and have not already registered, please email a message to Star Summerfield ([log in to unmask]).

As part of these DfE seminars, there will be an industry panel discussion on "Implementing Alternative MHC Technologies." IPC is issuing a call for panelists to participate on one of these panels. If your PWB company has implemented (successfully or not) any alternative technology for making holes conductive (other than traditional electroless), then you are invited to participate. The panel discussions will be informal. Each panelists is invited to take 5-10 minutes to talk about why their company chose a particular MHC technology, how they implemented it, what went right, what went wrong, what changes had to be made, and what lessons they learned. No A/V materials are required.

If you are interested in serving as a panelist at one of the two remaining DfE seminars, please contact Christopher Rhodes at IPC ([log in to unmask]).

Thank you.
