Jim:

Here are some inputs for you.

1) Military or Commercial? - Both (50 % Military, 50%
Commericial)

2) Clean or no clean? - Clean

3) What flux type are you using? - RMA for bench top operations.

4) Hand or machine cleaning? - Mostly hand clean. Have one particular
connector soldering operation that uses an Ultrasonic Cleaner.

5) What chemical or solvent are you using? Isopropyl Alcohol for hand
operations, using Chemtronics Flux-Off CZ in the ultrasonic cleaner.

6) Are you happy with your present cleaning process? - No, hand cleaning
with alcohol only seems to smear the RMA around. The Flux-off CZ works great
but, it's extremely expensive and there is a lack of technical support from
the manufacturer.

7) Any additional comments? - There should have been a better coordination
within our government between the EPA folks and the soldering specification
writers. That is, the seemingly simulataneous bans on the freon and
trichlorethane cleaners and the obsoletion of of Mil-Std-2000A and related
specs. What happened next was most customers telling us to carry on with the
obsolete 2000A specs but having no drop in replacement for cleaning the
rosin flux that the obsolete specs still wanted to use.
