Steve..
I am not so sure that an electrical test of single or double sided pwb's,
in small quantities, is cost effective. You can inspect the pwb for
shorts/opens very effectively with visual inspection. The setup time would
probably be much longer. However, for multilayers, since you can not see
the internal layers, it should be a requirement! Who wants to fix a bad
board ??
At one time, we use to specify 500v, but now we indicate the max voltage
that the surface will see in operation.
You should also talk to your vendor and agree on the type of data that
they will use to test the bare board. They are contractually obligated to
produce a pwb that agrees with the manuf. data as supplied by YOU (film or
Gerber files) ...they are not mind readers and SHOULD HAVE KNOWN what you
wanted. The best data to supply, would be the released net list of the
product from the electrical community. In this way, if the pwb designer
made a mistake, so VERRRY unlikly, then the design could be reworked with
less impact to cost/schedule as related to a stuffed assembly.
I am sure that the high volume guys/gals will have their own imputs on
this. Hope this helps. Have a good day.
