We tried to hand place and reflow shields (large ones)after SMD placement.
In this case it was very unsuccessful due the large area and the tooling
required to "hold" it down to the PCB.   It was a folded shield
presoldered/assembeled to other folded shields pieces to make up a large shield.

There is a company that custom makes shields that can be auto pick and
placed.  It might be worth looking into.  In general, if a large area is
required to be shielded I think your better of to place several smaller
shield pieces to accomplish this task if possible.
