Doug..
I am not very familiar with all the different specs out there
in the world, but I have worked with the Mil specs and I am getting to
use the IPC specs. Here is what I beleive to be published. Mil-Std-275
and Mil-C-28809 both reference jumpers (designed-in-jumpers and repair/
modification jumpers). IPC-D-275 and IPC-2221 (soon to replace 275)
references only designed-in-jumpers. I do not know if the IPC has a
repair/modification spec, maybe a Mike Buetow/Dave Bergman or someone
else at the IPC could comment.
Here is what we do on our Military products for changes/repairs/
modifications to multilayer pwb surfaces/assemblies: We add 36 awg magnet
wire, typical for standard 5v digital designs, and isolate by cutting or
isolating component leads per the Mil specs. If we reach a specified
number of jumpers, again per the Mil specs, we are contractually obligated
to redesign the surface and incorporate all outstanding changes/mods/repairs
into the new design. Hope this helps. If you would like, feel free to
contact me for further questions/comments. Have a good day.
Regards,
Bob Vanech
