Hello Jim -
     
     Alloy Sn46/Pb46/Bi8?? Tough one - the only place I found that alloy 
     mentioned was in JSTD-006. I'll see if I can find you a Sn/Pb/Bi 
     ternary diagram that has the liquidus and solidus points. You might 
     try giving Dave Torp at Kester (847-390-9338, Bill Hampshire 
     (614-841-0835 or Norb Socolowski (201-627-5179) a call - they might be 
     able to help. The discrepancies in the temperature range maybe due to 
     other small alloy additions that the users are not telling you about.

Subject: ASSY: SOLDER ALLOY MELTING POINT

I'm trying to find data on the melting point (range) of a particular solder 
alloy, Sn46 Pb46 Bi8.  So far, the temperature ranges I came across are:
     
 120 C to 167 C (IPC-J-STD-006)
     
 163 C to 178 C (a Japanese company)
     
 171 C to 186 C (a component foundry using this alloy - BGAs)
     
As you can see, I have conflicting stories.  Can anyone tell me where I can get 
good information?  (By the way, I don't have a sample to test so don't suggest 
it!)
