Brett,

If you are dealing with very heavy copper, you may want to try a
photoimageable legend ink.  There are shops that use this material when
screening over high tracks (3-5 oz copper) which were sprayed with LPI
soldermask.
Typically the screen is prepared with open blocks  in the mesh where the
characters are to be screened.  After tack dry the processing is the same  as
LPI.  Depending on your artwork you may want to do this prior to final bake.
