Hello Joann
Gerber Data has been accepted in the Industry as RS-274. This I suppose
you know that it has one file Gerber - for photoplotter movements to
produce the required image and another file - Aperture - to define what
light widths are used to draw/flash and so on.
Over a period of time, they came out with another method wherein this
external aperture file could be embedded into the gerber data file itself,
so that there is no external handler for aperture and the plot data
integrity is very high. The plotter and CAM also accepted this format and
is called RS-274-X, X for extended format.
Trust helps.
thanks with regards
k.v.raj
