The following is the result of the "No/Low HASL" alternative
Solderability
Preservation Finish Coating (SPFC) survey.

First off - I would like to thank the 14 individuals who responded to
the survey.

As noted in the summary, one response was from Korea (KR) and another
was from the United Kingdom (UK). It would have been better to have
received more responses, but as a small sample, the general availability
of SPFCs seems to have been identified.

Some respondee's supplied additional Organic and Metal SPFCs

Introduction sent for method and definiton of responses:

It is realized that some of you PB manufacturers may have more than one
solderability preservation coating (organic or inorganic) and it would
be desirable to discriminate between high/low usage. So a simple
high/low (H/L) usage code is included if you need it, with the "H" code
and the "L" code respectively being for 50% and <50% of production
usage. An "X" code location is provided for you to record availability
(do you use it).

ORGANIC COATINGS:
|_X_|_H_|_L_|

|_2_|___|_9_| Entek Plus (Enthone)
|___|___|___| Ronacoat (LeaRonal)

METAL COATINGS:

|_X_|_H_|_L_|
|_1_|_2_|_7_| Immersion Gold over the electroless nickel (Aurotech,
              Ronamerse SMT, OROLITHE)
              [1 "L" response from UK]
              [1 "H" response from KR]
|_1_|_1_|_2_| Immersion Silver (Alpha Level)[1 response from UK]
|_2_|___|_1_| Electroless Palladium (Pallatect, Pallamerse SMT)
|___|___|_VL_| Immersion tin (APT 884, Tinposit, Tinplate RT,
              Chemposit Sn)
|___|___|___| Immersion Palladium (Paladin)
|_1_|___|_4_| Electroless Gold over Nickel
|___|___|_1_| Immersion Gold over pattern plated Nickel
|___|___|_1_| Immersion Gold over Immersion Palladium

==========================================================

Respondee's comment: ".... we offer the following, plus hard gold,
soft gold and matte tin as surface finishes. We also do combinations
of two or more surface finishes. HASL used to be 95% of the surface
finish load, now in the last two years it is closer to 65% of the load.

Hope this was of interest and value to those who need to include SPFCs
requirements in their printed board documentation.

Thanks to all,

Ralph Hersey
