Could someone please more thoroughly describe the IST methodology. I've read the recent CircuitTree article but it doesn't explain the test coupons, methods, etc. All help appreciated.

To my knowledge, PWB Interconnect Solutions is the only independent test   
service available to date.  The service PWB provides is professional,   
timely, and is exceptional value.  The cost to do the test is $65 which   
is the same price to have a microsection done by an independent lab.  The   
value PWB provides you is work fatigue information for 250 IST cycles, a   
microsection evaluation, and a professional opinion of the post   
inner-connect and barrel quality.

Merix uses IST for material and process qualifications, process   
capability monitoring, as a response in DOE testing, and monitoring of   
strategic PWB designs.  Merix purchased the equipment in November 1996   
and completed a comprehensive acceptance test of the equipment.  The   
acceptance testing confirmed the ability of the machine to correlate   
resistance to temperature and the ability to detect post interconnect   
defects.
