To the extent that lead length matters for EMC performance, I would say
having longer leads away from a return path would hurt performance
relative to SMT devices where the circuit paths can be kept close. For
the same reasons, speeds should be higher for SMT.

Hi All,
There have been some discussion between the performance of PTH vs. SMT
style
packages. Some of the power and dig guys feel that the PTH stuff, in
some
cases, respond better than the SMT devices. I say thats hard to believe,
a
component should respond based on its electrical rating and
characteristics
not whether it is mount thru or on the pcb.
Any thoughts comments or remarks feel free????!!!!!!!
Thanks,
SAK
