Technet,
Preparing for a three Gigahertz application, our bright RF
Engineer tried to determine the losses for FR-4, GETEK, and
Rogers R4003 in 8 mil dielectrics.
He reviewed datasheets and some recent measurements. He made the
following estimates, which he labled as a "criminally liberal
interpretation" of data he had on hand. (Meaning he expects the
numbers to be wrong. Do not try to use these numbers at home,
kids!)
Stripline, 8 mil dielectrics, 3 GHz:
FR4 loss ~ 1.000 dB/inch
GETEK loss ~ 0.750 dB/inch
RO4003 loss ~ 0.250 dB/inch
Does any one have better data on these materials, or other
materials at 3 GHz?
Without suggesting ceramic-filled PTFE ($$$), are there lower
loss materials out there?
