What type of rigid carrier board do you use? Is it just plain FR4 or
Delmat?
I would like to know if you have any experience with any other type of
carrier that is as rigid as FR4, but is much less expensive and can
withstand the temperatures of a reflow oven.
The reason for this is that we would like to ship flex in a
panelized-form with that inexpensive, rigid carrier to our customer.
When our customer completes their assembly, they can just discard the
carrier.
To 3M? DuPont? Rogers? Any comments?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Re: SMT Assembly and Flex Circuits
Mr.Prasad:
We are doing volume assembly of electronics on flexible circuits
using
two conventional SMT methods:
(1)apply double side adhesive to the back of flex PWB,then put
on rigid
carrier board according to tooling holes easily for sceening
paste,reflowing
and assembly by use of SMT machine.
(2)put the flex PWB into two rigid thin stainless steel sheets
according to
tooling holes, just like sandwich. Open the windows in the steel
sheets so as
to expose the SMT area of flex PWB for assembly. So it is easy
to SMT
assembly.
As a matter of experience,(1) method is better than (2). For
only several
SMT components on flex PWB,more cheape methods is manual
operating,no need
use Auto SMT machines, especially in Asian.
Our company is the manufacturer of flex PWB,rigid PWB and
assembly.
