Richard,

We use a .0005" graduated radicle (100x).  They call them 
dycascopes..they are little monocular scopes with a scale etched into 
the eye piece..probably available from most photo supply companies.

Your machine may be more accurate (I assume to 4 places)but the quick 
reference check of a standard coupon feature works well for us.
