Greetings and apologies, all TechNet and TechNet-d users.

We experienced a severe mail storm this Friday, and since it happened on 
the weekend, we could not stop it before it filled up your mailboxes with 
useless messages. We are still determining the cause of this mail storm. 
Our best explanation is that one of the messages I sent to the TechNet 
(yes, the one about digest) was bounced back to the forum by one 
recipient's firewall and created a loop (to: TechNet cc:TechNet). This, 
combined with the hardware problems we are having, resulted in very 
unpleasant Monday morning for all of us. We apologize for it and thank you 
for your patience and understanding.

We are doing something about this problem: a $120,000 system upgrade is 
in process, which includes special dedicated hardware and software to 
handle our email forums, but that might take a few weeks to implement. 
Meanwhile, we ask you (as often as possible) to respond to the questions
on the forum by replying directly to the person who posted the question 
without replying to the TechNet. That will cut down the traffic, because 
every message sent to the TechNet is distributed among 1300 subscribers, 
which means that for every 20 messages posted our system have about 26 
000 messages to deliver, and the TechNet is not the only forum we support.
