Andy Burkhardt gave what I thought was a very clear and understandable
description of how stripline works. Since I did not have the benefit
of exposure to what he is talking about in school, I appreciate being
able to grasp at least the basics in a way that makes sense, even if
it's only approximate.
I did get lost in the estimation of the effective dielectric constant
for microstrip (Er'=3), which is made up of the dielectric constants
for air (Er=1) and FR-4 (Er=4), since the average of 1 and 4 is 2.5,
not 3. Or, if you use the square roots, the square of the average of
the square roots of 1 and 4 is 2.25. What am I missing?
