United Chemi Con makes SMT Electrolytic Aluminum caps (MV series). The
largest capacitance value that they show is 330 microfarads for a 25
volt cap.

Capacitors get their capacitance by the amount of area that is contained
within the package. Electrolytic Aluminum are popular because they have
the most capacitance/volume of any capacitors. They get this massive
area by chemically etching the aluminum foil. The net effect of this
etch is to create a rough surface that greatly increases the surface
area (hence the capacitance goes up). The problem you will encounter in
trying to go to SMT is that no one can make a large enough capacitor to
have 3300 microfarads and still withstand shock and vibration. I hope
this clears up some of the physics of capacitors and helps you decide
whether you will find a 3300 microfarad capacitor in SMT.

No chnace on any thing that large. If it is used for filtering you may
be
able to swap to lower value (uF) SMT tantalum cap. You can typically use
a
lower value Tant cap due to their improved ESR performance.

I guess I did not give enough info on this capacitor since I
have not received any feedback. The details of this cap are
as
            follows:

2,200 uF 25V Aluminum electrolytic cap, radial leaded, low
            profile Manufacturer: Nichicon (America) Corp.

We are looking for a SM version of this cap and will
appreciate any
            info.
