I'm not familiar enough with the alumina oxide process to comment on your
questions, however, I do know an excellent general purpose resist.

Morton Electronic Materials (Dynachem) has an exceptional product, called
Laminar 5000.   Some of the features are:

Wide process window.
Acid/alkaline etch
Very good adhesion, even in gold plate applications
Good tenting properties
Excellent resolution

Laminar 5000 is available in 1.3, 1.5, and 2.0 mil thicknesses.  If you
