For what it's worth, the term "alumina" is used to refer to the
compound aluminum oxide. This is one case of many in which the name
of the oxide of a metal whose name ends in "-um" is created by
replacing the "-um" with "-a". (Other examples: zirconium oxide is
referred to as zirconia and beryllium oxide as beryllia.) To say
"alumina oxide" is therefore redundant.
