I have seen solder pallets mentioned several times in this forum and would
like some more information. We are a fab shop and have some customers which
dictate a standard array size for the boards they purchase. I understand
their reasons for this (only one conveyor set-up for their SMT reflow and
wave solder lines), but in some cases we could get 60% more parts on a panel
and save them a significant amount of money on raw circuit boards. Many of
these parts are SIMM or DIMM boards with similar profiles. My question is;
how do these solder pallets work? Are they custom milled for each part size
(where the parts drop in?) Are they an adjustable rail type? I have seen
this type used for wave solder but what about solder paste screen and
reflow? How much do they cost? As you can tell I'm looking for a general
education to see if this is a cost effective alternative for our customers.
Thanks,
David Arivett
