    What causes the copper to appear green? Will this happen if there is no

Maurice,
    
     According to me it is copper.  I've never seen nickel like you
mentionned on pin.  Basicaly, the salt can't be deposed.
    
     If it is the case, it is a no go.  You have to strip ( uisually
with HNO3 and replate.
