A SMART SEMINAR:

WAVESOLDERING SURFACE MOUNT PCB' s WITH ZERO DEFECTS

DATE:	OCTOBER 21ST 1996
LOCATION:	HENLEY ON THAMES

DURATION: Day Workshop 10.00AM TO 16.30PM

INSTRUCTOR: Bob Willis Honorary Vice President of the SMART Group

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

To provide the test methods and information to set and maintain the soldering
process at its optimum for both conventional and Surface Mount products.
Illustrate the common soldering defects and how they can be overcome in
manufacture by adjustments of the process or by modification of design rules.
Particular attention will be paid to the use of No Cleaning fluxes and how to
overcome problems in their use. The setting of soldering standards and visual
criteria will be discussed and with it the need for effective process control
and defect monitoring.

COURSE CONTENT:

Zero defect soldering can be achieved by eliminating many of the common faults
seen during wavesoldering. By conducting simple process control tests on your
company's soldering system you can achieve the highest first time yields. Many
simple changes to the printed board specification and layout rules can also
increase process yields significantly and reduce rework.

KEY TOPICS:

Soldering Materials for SMT
Using Hot Air Knives
Fluxing for Conventional and Low Solids
Process Control Testing
PCB Finishes
Establishing Process Settings
Copper, Nickel/ Gold, Silver, Tin - Lead
Nitrogen Soldering
Solder Masks and solder Balling
SMT Soldering Standards
Pre Heat Measurement
Defect Analysis Clinic
Solder Waves for SMT

The session provides the practical solutions to your SMT problems with a "Defect
Clinic" to solve your board assembly defects. Provide a process problem and you
will be provided with solutions to aid your Zero Defect manufacture.

A SMART SEMINAR & TOUR OF FACILITY

PCB DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURE

DATE:	OCTOBER 22nd 1996 LOCATION: KAM CIRCUITS CALNE WILTS

DURATION:	Day Workshop 09.30AM TO 16.00PM

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

You design printed circuit boards, and / or you use printed circuit boards. With
Surface Mount very subtle tweaks made to the design rules can make a big
difference in assembly yields, and thus the cost. Many designers and users have
not seen in depth how a board is made. The Design for Manufacture rules for the
bare board maker make a big difference to the price you pay. A small change will
probably make no difference to the assembler but could make a big saving for the
fabricator. Here is you chance to learn the best of both worlds, and probably
save your company money.
