Dear Wendy,
The Insight/2020 is a white light reflective system. As a result, scrubbed
copper surfaces provide a high contrast against many types of laminates and
substrate thicknesses. However, double treated foils, due to their rough
surface condition tend to reflect less light back to the camera. The amount
of light needed to properly image the copper surface is such that thin
transparent cores may be difficult to setup making the system more sensitive
to surface variation.
We are developing new inspection methods utilising infrared light to image
difficult to see double treat materials. Please contact Mr. Siu or myself
for further information.

Subject: AOI/PCMCIA thin core

Hi,TechNetters,

We are useing 4 mil double treatment thin core from AlliedSignal to build
PCMCIA innerlayers. We find a great difficulty in instpection innerlayers
with
AOI (Insight/2020 Gerber). The machine just cann't see the deference between
the circuit and background.

To get a threshold value, we try defferent settings,

        *Changing high-inspection lamp
        *Adjusting the image threshlod sliders
*Adding filters either on specular side or diffuse side, even on
both
         sides.(600nm spectral filters)

The result is negetive.

I'm appreciate if anyone with thin core AOI instpetion experience can
provide
an answer.

Thanks
