Hi Jan - Oil on your component leads will degrade the solderability.
The level of degradation will be dependent on the type of flux you are
using - some fluxes can move/change/eliminate the oil and some fluxes
are rendered useless. The amount of time the oil stays in contact with
the component leads can be a variable also. My experience has been
that most folks use some type of cleaning step (either water or
solvent based depending on the type of oil involved) to remove the oil
contamination rather than rely on the flux to do the job.

Technetters,
I'm just curious about the affect on component solderability after used
a bend&cut machine. I suspect some kind of lubricant coating after using
these machines on our components. The machines need this to operate
properly.
Is there any other kind of lubricant or some other solution to this?
How does oil affect the solderability?
Is there any low-cost way to remove this oil before wave soldering
without much time loss?
I'm greatful for anykind of info.
/Jan Merstrand
