Gary,
The NECQ audit program is our national off-shoot of an international
program known as the IECQ. (International Electronic Component
Qualification Program). For a country to participate they need an
National Standards Organization (NSO) and a National Supervisory
Inspectorate (NSI). There must also be a National coordination body in
each country. In the US it is the ECCB ( Electrinic Component
Certification Board). The ECCB is a group of approximately 25 individuals
from different industry sectors to represent the electronics industry in
qualification efforts. EIA is our NSO; UL is our NSI.
The NECQ is a mirror program of the IECQ. Instead of qualifying
components to an international specification it is done to a national or
industry specification. The NSI is still UL, only they are now called the
SSI (System Supervisory Inspectorate). So it is the same players just
wearing a different hat and using a different set of specifications. The
rules for the program are the same, and the ECCB manages both.
